Pictures and Frames began as a pipe dream. In the midst of teenage angst and high school boredom, the then newsletter became both a saving grace and a challenge, and that is what I hope to make of it today. As an online magazine devoted to the Arts, in all of their splendid glory, I, along with a slew of other pop culture critics, hope to bring to light the films, books and music that help get us through our daily grinds. Because we here at Pictures and Frames magazine understand what it's like “to truly love some silly little piece of music, or some band, [or some film] so much that it hurts.” And we know that you do as well. So please, crank up the volume, update the Netflix queue, and read on.

Launched in April 2007 as a weekly online
publication, SM serves to tell stories from the independent and student film
communities with an eye toward sharing thoughts and critique about trends
within the scene. While SM blatantly embraces subjectivity from its
contributors and interviewees, all opinions and ideas shared are solely
those of their authors and do not define the parameters of the publication's
stance. We welcome dialogue and devil's advocacy of all type in reference to
cinema and the production process.

Submissions of story ideas for the Features and Conversations sections as
well as editorials in the form of columns, cartoons or photo illustrations
for the Opinion & Ideas section are welcome at any time as are Letters to
the Editor and films for review for SM's Blog section. All materials and
inquiries may be sent to the editor at nrfores@shortendmagazine.com. SM
witholds the right to reprint all Letters to the Editor in our blog section
to promote discussion and address issues both positive and negative about
coverage.

As an unfunded publication at this time SM can offer no monetary
compensation for freelance work submitted though we can promise timely
response to inquiries.
